THE HELSINKY NEW LIBRARY

International competition 2012
Building Area: 15,000 m2
Owner: City of Helsinki-Finland.

The Helsinky New Library, designed for the City of Helsinki, Finland, was conceived through an international competition in 2012, encompassing a building area of 15,000 m².

This innovative proposal integrates public library spaces with a movie theater, recreational areas, exhibition halls, restaurants, cafes, and an open amphitheater, all thoughtfully arranged to enhance the park setting.

The design features two distinct volumes connected by an "inner" street, promoting accessibility and interaction with the park's greenery.

Notably, the library facilities are situated on the top floor, while the central area is elevated, allowing for a vibrant open theater and cafe beneath, fostering a seamless connection between the park and surrounding residential areas.
