THE HELSINKY NEW LIBRARY

International competition 2012
Building Area: 15,000 m2
Owner: City of Helsinki-Finland.

The program included public library facilities, a movie theater, recreational and  exhibition spaces, restaurants and cafes, open amphitheater, studios, offices.

Proposal considered the builings location -the park-as the tool splitting in two volumes creating an "inner" street that connects the two sides of the park through the buildings facilities.

Towards the park's greenery are located spaces that can serve visitors ( restaurants, cafe, exhibition spaces) without entering the library building.

Because the building  spans the entire length of the park it is raised at the centre leaving space underneath for an open theater, a cafe creating another interconnection of the park facilities to the residential blocks at the other side of the city.

Library facilities are located on the top floor of the builing.
